A dress up club to have a bit of fun, get all fancy, lean into our creativity and take a few (hopefully stunning) photos and videos of ourselves.

Wild Muse Collective is an offshoot of Nillumums, and this first event is exactly that: an experiment. A chance for anyone in the current group who’s a little bit whimsical, curious, wishes they had more opportunities to dress up, loves cosplay or has always wanted to do something like this, to come together and do something completely opposite our everyday lives.

The idea is simple: women gathering to step into an imaginary world for a day. To play, create, dress up, collaborate, and be seen through a more cinematic lens (this is where the photos and videos come in - pics or it didn’t happen right?).

This is not a standard photoshoot. This is an experience where you are the subject, the story, and the heroine of your very own novel.

HOW IT WORKS

Two week before the shoot, we'll gather for a styling night. Everyone brings along their outfit options, additional pieces that others might be able to add to their outfit, thoughts for their own makeup and hair, accessories, fabrics, strange little treasures, whatever feels right. We'll try things on, swap pieces, share ideas or makeup and hair tips, experiment with styling, and figure out what will go beautifully together.

For the styling night there will be snacks, BYO wine, and we’ll surround ourselves with dresses, shoes, jewellery, props, hats, crowns, coats, shawls, and half-formed ideas, helping each other make decisions for the shoot the following fortnight.

Then on shoot day, we do it all again - but with direction and purpose. We’ll arrive with our hair and makeup done (lending a hand to anyone who needs it of course) and finalise styling, props and creative direction as we go - adapting to the location and what the weather has thrown at us.

We will use our own phones and just play, experiment and see what looks and feels right. The intention is to keep this test shoot zero / low cost… but the main goal is to have fun!

QUESTIONS

• Do I have to get really into the theme?

  • Fuck no! You can embody the theme however you wish. You can do a chic modern version, stripped back version, maximalist, historically accurate or completely advant garde take on the theme.

• What if I don’t like photos of myself / there ends up being no good photos of me from the day?

  • We will take LOADS, so there’s sure to be at least 1 photo you like. The reality is I’ve never done this before so for the first one we’ll just have to give it a go and see how it turns out.

• I don’t have anything to wear!

  • I feel you. Firstly, we’re all here to support each other look as amazing as we can on the day. If there is one skirt that looks fab on multiple people - we can all wear it to get the best result. This is about supporting and sharing with each other with whatever we have and it can take any form. Got a regular black wool coat? Bring it along! It may turn out that it looks good for multiple themes.

  • Also (for certain themes) something like a $10 maxi skirt from an op shop with a nice top you already own + shared accessories or props from the group could give you the perfect look, and don’t forget the location will be doing a lot of the heavy lifting for you (ie. Monsalvat for Wuthering Heights)
